Belgian champion Toon Aerts wins overall World Cup
After becoming Belgian CX elite champion for the very first time in the beginning of January, Toon Aerts has won the World Cup overall as well. A tremendous and completely deserved result which makes him an international CX champion.
It was an exciting last stage of the 2018-2019 Telenet UCI World Cup last Sunday, January 26th, in Hoogerheide, The Netherlands. Toon Aerts and Wout van Aert had to battle against each other. The rider who'd finished on the podium before the other one, would win the World Cup overall. Finally, it became 25-year-old Toon Aerts uit Rijkevorsel after a stunning race.
It's a deserved overall win for Aerts, as he had begun in highest acceleration on the World Cup season. He won both stages in the United States. After that he finsihed 3th in Bern (Swi), 4th in Tabor (Cze), 3th again in both Koksijde and Namur (Bel), 4th in Heusden-Zolder, 2nd in Pontchâteau and also 2nd in the final nerve-racking last stage in Hoogerheide.
